That's right. The first gig they performed with the name 'Rammstein Flugschau' ('Rammstein Flightshow' in English). Later they left away the 'Flugschau'.
The reason why they put in the additional 'M' to their name is simply because they didn't know that Ramstein is written with only 1 M. If you take the actual German spelling rules, then you would have to write Ramstein with 2 'M'. But as the town is many 100 years old, the spelling of the name is a little 'old fashioned'.

The Band is named after the airshow accident that killed like 80 people or some number like that. They just added an extra M in the name I thought everybody knew that they were named after the airshow accident and not the town....
