I was going to his 90 birthday at north sea jazz. Unfortunately he was ill and not able to come. So only roy hangrove and Roberta Gambrini were there..

I think he may have heard Art Tatum play this once. Still makes it his own though.

Well "better" is a relative term, yes? There are great talents in the history of jazz piano, Tatum had a unique role in developing the piano, from him flows Oscar, Phineas Newborn, and others. Hank has some of Art in him, but he is clearly also a student of Fats Waller, and is on his own merits one of the five or six greatest of all time - the strangely self-taught Erroll Garner, the disciplined Teddy Wilson, the extrovert Tatum, the happiest of all Oscar Peterson, the inward-bound Bill Evans.

Those left hand harmonizations are what makes my heart sing! The great Hank Jones! God bless Mrs. Jones for her three sons, my three favorite musicians - Hank, Elvin and Thad. My god, what a family!

I'm almost embarassed to say that I knew little of Hank Jones until recently, even though I've studied jazz piano and have been a fan for years...Hank Jones is as good as any of the greats..I like him even better than Tatum or Peterson. Why hasn't he achieved the greatness he so deserves?
