I just learned the name of the producer was Johnny Franz and he worked with such top names in the 50s and 60s as Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield, Frankie Lane and Rosemary Clooney. It may be that Spector was influenced by him!

Actually, the song was written by the Four Seasons team of Bob Gaudio and Bob Crewe. The Four Seasons released it a year before the Walker Brothers. While the Walker Brothers had the bigger hit with it, the original Four Seasons version is also amazing. In fact, of all the incredible songs that Bob Gaudio wrote, he says this one is his favorite. It's an absolutely brilliant song that the Walker Brothers did an incredible job on.

I always thought that because their hits appeared 1st in the UK that they were Brits. I'm surprised to find out they were from the US. A lot of people compared them to the Righteous Brothers. I think they had their own style, however, whoever produced this song studied the "Phil Spector Wall of Sound" and nailed it.
