Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV)

Described by developers AAI, MRVI and Sea Robotics as a fourth-generation unmanned surface vessel (USV) that can be remotely operated and function in fully autonomous missions, the Interceptor was displayed in public for the first time at IDEX 2007 in Abu Dhabi.

The USV is designed to operate in concert with UAVs to provide an unmanned defence and maritime security surveillance solution.

The Interceptor is 21.6 ft long with an 8 ft beam, a top speed of 55 mph, 24-hour endurance and a range of up to 1,000 nautical miles.

How would that work? Communicating to a sub is difficult. If you can't communicate then you can't monitor it. You don't want an unmanned combat vehicle operating without human oversight.

Believe me, there are people who are more than happy to allow unmanned combat vehicles using AI rather than "human oversight". Less chance of an AI hesitating where a human would when asked to neutralize an entire village full of civilians.

You read too much fiction, the world has many psychos but none of them control the US military. Furthermore, the US military does not target civilians.

LOL you've clearly been living under a rock. Look at what the USA has done in the past 8 years. The psychos not only control the US military, they own it. Of course the US military does not target civilians. The government redesignates civilians it doesn't like as "terrorists", then the military targets only terrorists. The military are simply doing their job. The people in control of the military are psychos.

All of those terrorist targets have killed US Soldiers and innocent people. Name one who hasn't. Unsubstantiated claims are easy to make, especially when they have "shock value."

slapping remote control technology on anything doesn't make it cool. slapping some guns and mowing down people from around the globe! now that's something i can enjoy!
