Lockheed Morphing UAV
BackHigh performance jet fighters have used a variety of morphing mechanisms in the past such as variable-sweep wings and fowler flaps to expand the flight envelope and enhance mission capability. The Morphing Aircraft Structures Program takes this concept to a higher level. Radical shape changes such as a significant increases or decreases in wetted area could allow a single platform to conduct two or more diverse missions. The ability to perform both high altitude persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance and also rapidly respond to Time Sensitive Targets could provide the warplanner with options not previously available. Seamless skins, smart actuators and adaptive flight control technologies are key to this revolutionary approach to flexible combat aircraft design. Integration of network centric interoperability and tailored survivability could produce a weapon system that compliments state-of-the-art systems including the F-22A and F-35.

The day that machines are able to pilot themselves and find threats and report them to both each other and us on their own networks, they might not even fight at all. the AI might get to the point where they refuse to fight because it is just a waist of time money and effort.

Sweet! I'm glad we've got this. China thought they BOUGHT ALL OF OUR SECRETS. They got the lock, they got the stock...but they didn't get the barrel. I SUPPORT THIS VEHICLE...HOWEVER just one question for the Government.
We can CREATE THIS but we can not build a damn fence along our southern borders!?!?

The US government doesn't usually fund these projects in their totality, gokufievel. DARPA will spend some of its money, but companies like LM spend a considerable amount of their own monies to develop technologies such as these. I do have the same questions about our borders and their porosity as well.

FAKE
4Skunky (March 3, 2008 at 9:49 pm)
If you say so, Reunpack. Let DARPA and ADP know, will you? Maybe you don't know as much as you think. Yes, it is animated, but the concept, materials, and the product aren't fake. Think what you like, as it won't make any difference.
Reunpack (March 3, 2008 at 9:54 pm)
Sounds to me like you might be a BUSHITE! You go ahead and find those WMD's also!
4Skunky (March 3, 2008 at 10:13 pm)
So instead of addressing the points in my reply, you set up a straw man, Reunpack? I support the end-users of the products, regardless of who is taking a turn in office. Ask David Kay, former head UN weapons inspector, about WMDs as he's probably better qualified than either of us to know about their existence. His thoughts on the subject are interesting. Are you familar with DARPA and ADP (the original backers of the concept), or do you feel the need to share your ignorance with everyone?

What the HELL does this have to do with minerals? Bushite is not even a real mineral dummy.

Keep the vids coming and ignore critics like Zepto whose apparent goal seems to be to discredit anything originating from US manufacturers. UAVs are far more versatile than manned vehicles, have infinite endurance and i look foreward to the day when war is fought by machines without endangering human lives.
