Adlib Tracker II - "imadick"
BackI just discovered my old laptop has a chip in it that works like the Yamaha OPL3 chip from the old Sound Blaster cards. It is an FM synthesizer chip which makes some very nice metallic sounds; cymbals, xylophones etc. sound really nice. It can also do some very nice, fat bass sounds.
This also means that Adlib Tracker runs on it, and very nicely too under DOS.
Here, I'm playing a song called "imadick" (lol?) from the Adlib Tracker package of example tunes. Shows you can create some nice chiptunes with the FM chip too. :)
The laptop is a Compaq Armada 1598DT.

kollikolli, I've got a sine an a saw. You want them? ;)
Just kidding. Samples in chiptunes are just standard soundwaves like sine, saw, square, triangle and things you draw yourself. They are normally so easy to create/generate that people don't exchange them between each other.
Cheers.

The sound chip in this laptop was an ESS Audiodrive which incorporated 100% SB16 compatibility, including the OPL3. This laptop was designed for Windows 98, and a I'd say a lot of 98 users were still using a few legacy DOS apps that banged Sound Blasters directly. I guess that was the idea. I think laptop hardware was a little behind the times too as the technology was developing.
I'll miss this laptop.

wow thats good. i just wish my craptop had better comadability with FreeDos to handle that program. drivers for my chipset are aperently rare or nonexistent.

after around 3 hours of diging throgh a room full of boxes I found the drivers and got the sound working, but now I'm having trouble with making insterments because the rez is so small 1/3 of the screen is cut off, making this harder than it should be. (my laptop was made in 1995) and has opl2 i think "thanks to the fatman"
