i have a tank that i modified with twin turbos and nitrous, top speed is 70 mph. And on the highway i get about 23 miles to the gallon. does this get that much? i didn't think so

This is a highly modified T-55. Post war American tanks were not a match for what the Russians were producing in the T-44 and T-55 series of tanks or really even the T-34/85. It took the west almost 30 years to catch up to the Russians the first tank capable being the M-1 Abrams and perhaps the Chieftain. Both tanks had serious shortcomings though and the Abrams is a fuel guzzling liability to this day.

I think the T 55 is a great tank, if you don't think so, consider the numbers that were produced, the parts of the world it has fought in, and its length of service. No other tank can compare against the T 55 warhorse in that regard. An army having lots of 21st century T 55's would be more economical then the current few numbers's of big, very complex and very expensive modern MBT's. The US army's next tank, is going to be the same size as the T 55, and that's a step in the right direction.

Actually, the M48 and M60 series were comparable to the T-55.

There were about 40 T-35 multi-turret heavy tanks used in the very beginning of Barbarossa.
