Irwin Allen made "The Swarm" because he personally had a phobia about bees. So it was something near and dear to him (apparently).

BTW, the name of Lee Grant's TV News reporter is Ann MacGregor. That is exactly the same name of the character that Lee Meriwether played in Irwin Allen's "Time Tunnel" series. A little 'in joke' on Irwin's part.

You missed my two favourite lines:

The film also refers to them as the Africans a lot

Michael Caine yells a lot in this movie. I understand his passion for getting rid of the bees before they destroy everything, but seriously. He's like a two year old throwing a tantrum sometimes. And that's why this movie is filled with win: great actors doing shoddy acting.
