Wow you have NO idea what you are talking about! I own a 1982 mazda rx-7 with a 12A Twin Rotor engine. I got this car back in April 2004 and at that time she had 81K on the engine (which is still the original one...never been rebuilt). NOW in Oct. 2008 the car is STILL running strong and i am on 160k! I use this car DAILY! if you treat them right and replace all the fluids religiously then these things WILL last you. These engies are amazing and reliable in the RIGHt hands!

correct me if i'm wrong.. but i think Mazda is the only one making rotary engine.

That is true, but when it first was invented, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volvo took interest in using this engine in production, but was discontinued due to the fuel consumption and maintenance hassles, and the improper sealing between each chambers which the Apex Seals were later invented.

They should make RX-8 more powerful

does it need engine oil????
GTLgamer (September 24, 2008 at 9:33 pm)
of course it needs oil!!! older ones need a lot of it and the 13b from the rx8 is still consumpting more than a regular 4-stroke engine...

ive never even herd of this type of engine before.

as you are right but for those who worry about fuel prices it is good for them to know rotaries love gas and i just pointed out some common probs with rotary lke the apex seals and also the torque factor i mean rotaries can push the power but they have no torque to back it up so do u see what i am sayign

Uhm.... Why is it that anyone who thinks they know Wankels say the apex seals go? Go buy one, treat it and drive it like it was made for, then come back and tell me how your apex seals are. Ok? Better yet, google APEX SEALS first. I wouldn't want you to not know. Torque EH? Its (most commonly) a 1.6 liter... How much torque does any <2.0L engine make?
Power? Highest P2W ratio... Rev to infinity... need torque? Gear lower.

yees? wankels are still great engines, only old=boring people care about fuel economy. you might think were F***ing morons, and yes we might be! but so can you! if you worry so much about torque you might want a diesel engine, diesels are great, between 3000 to 3001 rpm and make a sound that is soooooo boring, that if i had the choice of choosing between never hearing the sound of high pitched, high reving engines and getting shot in my chest! i would choose to get shot!
