They didnt make this because someone needed it. They made it to prove a point of how far we have come, yet how far we need to go. Not only in self healing/repairing stuff, but just in Robotics in general.

This in itself is not hugely useful, but the APPLICATION is useful. That is, what can be accomplished with robotics now that this has been accomplished. This is a demonstration of a small step forward in robotics. You are not likely to see this on the market, but things related to this may be.
