True.....but what is more dangerous, 127 million commies or 1.27 Billion commies?

My fear would be that "Todays Japan" would never have exsisted without their loss in 1945. And that the Japan of the 30's thru 40's, assuming no Pacific War, would have continued to grow as a racist militaristic regime, like their Nazi Allies, THEY would have become what China has been over the past few decades.

Economically the country is in pretty good shape, it's the in the political sense that is dangerous. I realize that although I can't predict with %100 accuracy the events of the past, but the capitalism of today's Japan might have rubbed off on the Chinese. The same way we might have prevented the situation in the Middle East had we stayed out of Afghanistan and let the Russians carry out their plan.

What I was trying to say was that it was the US's abandonment of China post-WWII that left the country ripe for Revolution. Had Japan stayed out, and the rest of the world stayed in, the country would be in far better shape today.
Post-war Japan was and is a wonderfully industrious Nation, Japan of the 30's and 40's wasn't

At the risk of sounding crass, had the Japanese occupied china, we wouldn't be facing a communist giant right now. Japan is the 2nd world economy, in a country the size of california. Imagine what they could achieve with an area the size of china.

True, true, despite the US oil reserves at that time, the Japanese chose agression over all other options, reap as ye sow, right?
Japans problem was their rampant militarism at the time. In hindsight Japan in China was a pretty terrible thing,(coupled with their inherent racism) better to have kept them out alltogether and avoid the events that led to the Chinese Revolution. The whole world was interested in China in the 1930's, how better off would they have been to stay a part of it?
Thanks

One could say the same about the Allies' attempts to stifle Japanese expansion in the interest of their own expansion in china. It's easy to say "one could have chosen ethics over oil" living in a country with abundant oil reserves, but their situation was completely different.
OPE08 (October 10, 2008 at 6:35 pm)
They put an oil embargo on them in as much as refusing to use US oil tankers to transport oil from fields that Japan stole from the Dutch. International Relations aren't as easy as you think. The Japanese DID have a choice, its relative today, allowing rabid militants to run your country always ends up poorly, they COULD have chosen ethics over oil
For that matter WWII in its entirety could have been avoided by rolling over to Japanese military criminality and a snipers bullet in Berlin??
