Jesus Christ Superstar (2000) Could We Start Again,Please? (17)

Back

Mary Magdalene laments after Jesus is taken into custody. In a scene added for the Broadway production, the apostles and Mary Magdalene wistfully remember the beginnings of their movement and solemnly wish that they could just start over ("Could We Start Again Please?"). This is my favorite song and it was originally only performed on broadway, the video and concerts. It was never on the original concept album. It was created and added later. From The Studios At RAN Productions and RicBNH

Ohh, sorry! I thought you said "is that a girl's name?" I was like, uhh...

No that is not what I said first of all. Second of all that is not what I meant. I asked if that was her name not if it is a name. HAHA!! But that's alright.

Renee? Yes, it's a girl's name. Have you ever heard of Renee Zellweger?

This Mary is 100 times better then Yvonne. Personally this version is better then the '73 version. But I still say the 1970 original(was first a c.d.) is the best. Murray Head and Ian Gillan were great.

I was disappointed with the 1973 scene of this song. It just had Jesus standing there while everyone sang. I like how here it's showing Jesus actually getting tortured and giving the audience more of a feel for how serious this is. I also love the small addition of Judas' reaction to it.

I think that the '73 version was meant more as a figurative interpretation, with the way he was walking away meaning that you can never go back. But showing the beating in this scene did give new perspective to the next scene showing Judas' remorse.
