Apple basically puts emphasis on multimedia and style, but they're not very compatible with different software.
As for malware, the only reason a mac doesnt get targeted is because they only represent a tiny percentage of users so its just not worth the effort for virus-writers. It's been proven that Mac OS is NOT secure at all.
