There are no conspiracies in politics, just successful and unsuccessful plans.

Eisenhower approved the CIA plan. He did not want Iran to come under Soviet influence. At that time '53 was the height of the "cold war".

Listen to all of this 1960 speech.

everyone see "why we fight" on google video. extremely interesting.

A quick account:
Britain didn't like Iran nat'ing its oil industry, suggested coup, CIA conducted it, installed Shah, Shah overthrown in 20ish years, New Iran very anti-American, US uses Saddam (Iran Iraq war) seeing him as a worthy puppet,Rumsfeld meets Saddam, Saddam gains too much power (Kuwait invasion), Saddam demonized by US (didn't have to do much to do tht),
Iraq = strategic so intel made up to support today's war
:)

Ike was a great president. We could use a guy like him again. A real leader.

uberjim,

Your point is correct as shown in Steve Coll's THE BIN LADENS. OBL declared his fatwa in the late 80s and attack the WTC in 1993.

BTW, according to Islamic law, only a high council of Islamic scholars may declare fatwa. Therefore, OBL's actions are illegal under Islam.

As for supporting terrorism, Saudi Arabia has done more than anyone as shown in Coll's book.

Yes, but the AQ network is hardly a part of mainstream Islam. Think of it kinda like the Landover Baptist church but more violent. Part of their goal was to overthrow Saudi Arabia via a religious revolution (to force the rulers to stop acting all friendly with westerners), then unite the region in a new Caliphet. All of the alleged 9/11 hijackers, as well as Bin Laden himself, are from Saudi Arabia.

Also, Iraq was a communist dictatorship, meaning that Hussein's rule was primarily secular. This is at odds with Al-Qaeda's goal of reestablishing the Caliphet, or a theocratic Muslim Empire. If Al-Qaeda had succeeded in this goal, then they would probably have eventually taken Iraq by force themselves.

Muslim groups did not seem to care when getting weapons from the US in there war against the Soviets. Would it not be possible that they would turn to Hussein
for support in their war on the US. And in their 98 "fatwa" declaration of war because of what the US was doing to the "Iraqi People".
