MiG-29 "Fulcrum"

Back

The Mikoyan MiG-29 (Russian: МиГ-29) (NATO reporting name "Fulcrum") is a fighter aircraft designed for the air superiority role in the Soviet Union. Developed in the 1970s by the Mikoyan design bureau, it entered service in 1983 and remains in use by the Russian Air Force as well as in many other nations.Because it was developed from the same basic parameters laid out by TsAGI for the original PFI, the MiG-29 is aerodynamically broadly similar to the Sukhoi Su-27, but with some notable differences. It is built largely out of aluminum with some composite materials. It has a mid-mounted swept wing with blended leading-edge root extensions (LERXs) swept at around 40°. There are swept tailplanes and two vertical fins, mounted on booms outboard of the engines. Automatic slats are mounted on the leading edges of the wings; they are four-segment on early models and five-segment on some later variants. On the trailing edge, there are maneuvering flaps and wingtip ailerons.

The MiG-29 has hydraulic controls and a SAU-451 three-axis autopilot but, unlike the Su-27, does not have a fly-by-wire control system. Nonetheless, it is very agile, with excellent instantaneous and sustained turn performance, high alpha capability, and a general resistance to spins. The airframe is stressed for 9-g (88 m/s²) maneuvers. The controls have "soft" limiters to prevent the pilot from exceeding the g and alpha limits, but these can be disabled manually. In joint USAF-Luftwaffe exercises, the downgraded MiG-29 9-12A that the Luftwaffe fielded defeated the F-16 Fighting Falcon in close-range combat almost every time using its highly practical infra-red search and track (IRST) sensor and helmet-mounted sight, together with the Vympel R-73 (NATO reporting name AA-11 'Archer') missile. The MiG-29 has two widely spaced Klimov RD-33 turbofan engines

no...Su35/37 would also beat F-22. I think that it would also beat Mig29 OVT...
Su27 is a legend, the most agile fighter in it's time (more then F15 and Mig29)

im not tring to put down russian aircraft i love them i perfer them more then american jets but the F-22 raptor is fast, super manuverable and stealth the only fault that i know of is it looses its stealth when it opens its doors otherwise it is one ONE of the best aircraft of its time and i know a Su-27 would take out an F15 and a mig29 if flown by a russian pilot but an F-22 i dont know with stealth cap it could probally fly inbehind it

we were talking about the dog fight.
But anyway, how many missiles can F22 hold inside his body? Also in BVR when he fires the missile, the target has enough time to plan and evade the missile. Especially when you can use terrain for coverage. Also I don't think that F22 is really that invisible. Maybe when very far away from the target...
It really is not the same if you are attacking talibans in the desert or well equipped Norwigens in fjords...

yea and in a dogfight u want the fastest and most manuverable aircraft add stealth and you have one hell of a dogfighter and a F-22 i think can hold 6 AIM-120 and 2 AIM-9 internally meaning probally 8 aircraft downed and fighting taliban the F-22 doesn't do that shit maybe once in a blue moon otherwise F-15 strike eagles, AC-130, F-16, A10 and soon to be F-35 take care of that

In a dog fight stealth irrelevant. Which makes Su35/37 and Mig29OVT more powerful then F22....but anyway...these are all machines made for killing people...and one will never understand what does it mean until he sees the death. Launch the missile and wipe 30 plp for the face of the earth is just genocide...

AT about 10 miles and closer, Mig will beat any aircraft in the world.

Actually, 40 miles and closer, Mig is unmatched, especially Mig-29 OVT or Mig-35.

Yes, there are aircraft that are better at BVR, but close in, nothing is a match to Mig, I think even Su-30MK will lose to Mig in close combat, let alone the raptor, which was never meant to fight migs actually, or match their manueverability.
