Traditional Latin Catholic Mass: Easter Sunday

Back

Traditional Latin Mass filmed on Easter Sunday in 1941 at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Chicago. The film presents the ceremonies of the Missa Solemnis or Solemn High Mass in full detail with narration by then-Mgr. Fulton J. Sheen. Celebrated by Rev. J. R. Keane of the Order of Servites (hence the white habits and cowls), the ceremonies are accompanied by a full polyphonic choir, orchestra, and fifty Gregorian Chanters.

The attention to detail in the ceremonies is impressive. Notice, for example, how the servers and ministers always take great care to move in order. Notice too that the servers are all almost identical in height. The Ordinary of the Mass, composed by Rev. Edwin V. Hoover, while pleasant in places, is very much a reflection of its time. The Proper on the other hand is timeless and sung admirably by a healthy throng of Seminarians from Mundelein, Illinois.

Unfortunately due to size restrictions at Youtube around 20 mins have been cut from the original, however, I hope to upload a full version somewhere soon. In addition to the cuts I have added new captions and edited the opening credits which had deteriorated in the original. Other than this the film remains largely unchanged. Apologies for the error in the captions for the two parts of the Mass (software). The first part is of couse the Mass of the Catechumens, the second is the Mass of the Faithful.

Amen again. Bad Catholics are worse than the jews, because they acknowlege Christ to be Lord, but don't act like it. Christ said pick up your cross and carry it, and most refuse to carry the cross, hence narrow the way that leads to life. Catholics are the salt of the world. If salt mixes with water what becomes of the salt?

The messages of Salvation is for all, believers and unbelievers alike. All are born in sin and shaped in iniquity as the Scriptures says. Thus the call to repentence is for all. This is evident from the New Testament Letters of St. Paul. These writing were not address to communities of unbelievers, NO, but to believers who were engrossed in worldiness. Therefore, the Church cannot be silent about the message because some of Her members fail to live up to the standard. She as a duty to them alike

Thank you Sam for that validation. However in anticipation of some of our possible to be critiques, who may say things like: If what I say about the church position in the world is correct, then, what do I have to say about some of the said members of the Church who are trapped or simple participate in the ills and decadence of the world of which I speak. Is no that I sign that the Church has lost her credibility to speak and proclaim the message to the world? my answer to then is no.

Amen Amen. While the way She says things change as time goes on, what she means hasn't, to quot Pius X, the Truth is incommutable. You hit the nail on the head, all pleasure, no pain. Christ really was a sign of contradiction, because He showed us that we will suffer, where we suffer is totally up to us, we can do it now or later.

Yes She is like an Antidote, because although she is in he World as the rest of the world, she must use some of the very means of the world to correct the ills of the world. And even though the world at large does not heed Her Message, She must still proclaim it because She has been mandated to do so '' Go into the World and preach to all nations''

From time to time the Church must adjust herself to the changing world so that Her message maybe heard by the people of the world, but the church is not here in the world to be pattern after the social fabrics of the world decadence .Man's gold is to seek pleasure and avoide pain at all cost, but the Church is here in the world to teach the world (The human race) how to deny the Self and strive after the only thing that last - God. Therefore the Church is like an Antidote.

Yes sam you are correct I agree with you.

Now are are some paradoxical facts about the Catholic Church which worldy People and political systems does not seems to understand.

The Church is in the world, and it is an intergral part of the societies of the world because Her members are made up of the citizens of the world, yet at the same time the Church is not in the world to conform to the moral standards of the world, but rether to be an agent of transformation of the world.

I can't agree with you more. I think society is pleasure driven if that makes sense. It's all about pleasure, hence the porno industry is a several billion dollar a year industry. Hence the argument about abortion and contraceptives. People want the Church's teachings to fit them and not the other way around. It is for this reason I believe that the BVM said at Fatima that most are damned for breaking the 6 &9 commandments. Let me know your thoughts.

Because the Catholic Church's teachings are built on Faith and Reason, it is reather difficult for imbeciles, and protestants plus other enemies of the Church who are weighed down by bigotry and resentment of the truth that the Cathoilic Church is the unequivocal Church of God as the course course of history bears witness. And as Christ promise to be with until the end of time. Because of this and other facts, they are envious of Her. But Chist is calling all to be save and to do His will.

For example someone called johnny wrote that the Catholic Church enduces people to shame and guilt. Where as, the Church has no power to enduce people to shame and guilt. It rather it is people departure from the laws and commandment of God through their bhaveour and their sinful way of life that reduced them to shame and guilt when they come face to face with the true purpose of life for which they were created by God at to which they have departed from.
