Oops, I meant to write subtle ways. I was not referring to subito, a technical term in music meaning sudden. The faults with Chomsky's thesis about manufacturing assent and consent can be seen if you think about the extent to which modern and postmodern civilization also manufactures (constructs) all criticism and discontent. At this stage of history there are more than two possibilities: solidarity versus specialized classes driving us to oblivion. We are not in a global terminal phase.

The key intellectual fault with this line of thought is that Chomsky discusses the issue in black and white terms: democracy or totalitarianism. The argument against "elites" does not apply to elite thinkers at MIT and the Ivy League schools, I guess, since many thinkers at such universities precisely the ones most likely to write cogently about the importance of at least reasonable representative democracy. Chomsky is not the best person alive! His semi-popular books often mislead in sublt ways

Last month my school went bankrupt and I had a lot of time available to research. I learned soo much about the "real world" it's truly amazing.
And it's weird to know that I was unaware of so many dangerous secrets. Watch the "AIDS Inc." trailer for example!
I'm almost like an internet activist now. :)
And this video, which I discovered only hours ago, represents my views almost perfectly.
I had heard Chomsky before but I never took my time to get to know him... until today.
I love internet :)

from 2:05 to 2:21, look at the differences between the guys on the right and left of the podium. The guy on the left is sooo arrogant, you can tell that he just like"ohh this chomsky, I could have written something better," whereas the guy on the right is just like, "i think this man might be a prophet"

you guys are gay, if you were "intellectual" at all, youd know chomsky well enough to know that he doesnt have intellectual fualts. you must be 12 or something.

If you weren't such a throbbing cunt, you wouldn't be on youtube creating straw horse arguments to feed your 17 year old ego.

Chomsky nails it, again. This man speaks to me more than anyone else. And yet we are advised to avoid him. He is a 'crank', a 'conspiracy theorist'. Elite groups spend an inordinate amount of time trying to smear him. It's the value of his words. They threaten to overturn everything.
