Iraqi TV Debate: Is the Earth Flat?
BackA debate between an Iraqi "Researcher on Astronomy" and a physicist on Iraqi television. Apparently, this is an important question in the Islamic world...
-From the transcript-
Interviewer: Lunar and solar eclipses, sunset and sunrise, and the changing of seasons -- how would you explain all these phenomena, if the Earth is not round, as you claim?
Fadhel Al-Sa'd: The sun circles the Earth because it is smaller than the Earth, as is evident in Koranic verses.
Have you ever seen how the sun moves? I have seen the sun moving. The sun makes one move every 24 hours.
What I say is based on Koranic science. He bases his arguments on the kind of science that I reject categorically -- the modern science that they teach in schools. This science is a heretic innovation that has no confirmation in the Koran. No verse in the Koran indicates that the Earth is round or that it rotates. Anything that has no indication in the Koran is false.

36:38] The sun sets into a specific location, according to the design of the Almighty, the Omniscient. [36:39] The moon we designed to appear in stages, until it becomes like an old curved sheath. [36:40] The sun is never to catch up with the moon - the night and the day never deviate - each of them is floating in its own orbit.

hmmm... well, as for the earth being "stationary", if I measure the earth's velocity relative to myself, (which is a pretty sensible way to do it), and I happen to be on the earth, then technically the earth IS stationary. It is only mobile if I choose the sun or some other point in space as my point of reference. Therefore, as long as the Bible\Torah\Koran weren't written by astronauts, they were technically correct in saying the earth is stationary.

"So far, no doctor has succeeded in understanding how the eye works"?????
Dont tell that to the thousands of optometrists that hold a doctorite in the field of optometry! They know exactly how the eye works. This man needs to stop basing his theories on an book that is full of mistakes and read a science manual! lol
