Last figure I have for the American Economy is around 30,000 Terawatts per year. Solar energy Density is around 1.4 Gigawatts per square kilometer, or 1.0GW at ground level. If you figure sunlight 30% of the time, and 10% conversion efficiency, you end up covering an area closer to the size of maryland than half the hemisphere.

Ask him whats 0 squared,I think he will know.lol

hey i made my solar panel out of a piece of aluminum grounded to earth and it works quite well you just need a larger area. it was the first solar cell created by nikola tesla 100 years ago, he called it a radiant energy panel!! i teach you how to build it too! thank you for your time.

yes i am extremely familiar with nicola tesla's work because i am a professional electrical engineer in the electrical power generating industry. the essential problem remains though that the energy density is not sufficient to provide the necessary electrical power needed on a commerical basis and even on a regional basis to suplement let alone replace our modern electrical power grid supply. it may charge a nickel sized lithium battery but when scaled up it is impractical!

I DID watch the whole story...that's how I was able to see HOW he procured the energy. Which caused me to make a LOGICAL conclusion on the feasibility of this cultured experiment.
1/2 the population can't even monitor their own children in this country, and the other can't even manage a checkbook.
You could power for 12 years a cruise ship with 1 bar of plutonium, but ruthless tearerizts would then steal ship to make big BOOM. Oh yea, Al Gores house was a REAL success!

u tell em sunny! so there's no escaping that gas line then?.

the manner in which the modern economy, trade, transportation, resources, products and the energy in which they are manufactured, processed, re-cycled, and thrown away essentially means that there is ALWAYS fossil fuels found somewhere in the pipeline. it is a pipe dream to think that building a solar panel ( or millions or even billions ) will solve our energy consumption use. the energy value is just not there to make it commercially feasible. and i am probably much older than you as well.

Ok but google this:
"Australian Scientists Make Huge Automotive Breakthrough in Fuel-Cell Technology"
Reat through it...it's dated August 8th 2008.
Solar-hydrogen-hybrid.

...come back and share your opinion.
suntzu1985 (August 12, 2008 at 6:38 am)
yes i have read it and i am familiar with a great deal more research that is going on in the alternative energy field. the problem is that battery technology requires elements from the periodic tables that are extremely expensive to refine into a usable product. nickel, cadmium, lithium, aresenic, gallium, selenium and about 40 other elements leave behind toxic residues that require expensive remediation efforts to reduce or even prevent pollution. the point is it costs to much to be effective.
