This video shows how easily cultural 'mistranslations'(for lack of a better word) can occur, especially through the media. Hara-kiri (also known as seppuku) is a suicidal ritual, through cutting of the stomach, that one undergoes to prove their grit and thus preserve their honor.

Well, one could say that. Kenshi really gives testament to its traditional meaning.

However, like you said, it's a suicidal ritual. Why not jump in the air and break your skull and neck? Besides, it wouldn't be Mortal Kombat if everyone killed themselves the same way. Even Kenshi would be mad about it.

I do understand what you mean, though. But hey, I guess it just sounded cool to have them called "Hara-Kiri."
