Excuse me! Black Pete (Zwarte Piet) was never intended to be a "slave helper"! They love working for Sinterklaas because he takes great care about them and he loves them a great deal! It's their life destiny to help Sinterklaas make the children happy. They do it because they want to and NOT because they're forced to! No child I know will be damaged or offended by the word Black in the name Black Pete! They all love "Sint en Piet" because they give everyone, black and white, presents and candy.

It's all taken from the god Odin. Odin has the same hat (nl: meiter) and the ''Zwarte Piet'' is taken from the two raven Odin always has by his side. Odin also has a staff and rides a white horse, Sleipnir.
