Forecasters say Hurricane Gustav has made landfall on Haiti's southwest peninsula. The fast-forming storm is sending global oil prices soaring on fears it could become 'extremely dangerous' as it approaches the Gulf of Mexico. (Aug. 26)

im from guam, and we get frequent typhoons (hurricans in the pacifics are called such). all of guams structures are solid concrete, yet americans homes are usually built from wood because the chances of such disasters are slim. to us would be just a big storm but to them is the end of the world.
