Gymnastics: From Level 7 to Elite

Back

made to show my high school class who knew nothing about gymnastics what i could do at the time and compare it side-by-side to elite gymnastics.

*i'm not claiming to be an elite gymnast. i was only around a level 7 when i made this video*

this is a project i made for a class in high school a few years ago. nothing too special, but just enough to show people who knows nothing about gymnastics what it is. i wanted to have a side-by-side comparison of what recreational gymnastics is and what elite gymnastics is so that everyone in my class would understand.

no, i'm not an elite, nor am i training to be that high level of a gymnast. i'm just a recreational gymnast not looking for perfection; i'm just out to learn new skills and do my best!

I love this vid. It's great 'cos it shows the amount of practice you have to do, all those reps of the basic moves at home, time at the gym, and what it gets you to. I love gymnastics but am not very good at it at all. This at least shows me what I have to do to improve. =D

I'm 5'6 and my toes hit the ground when I swing on the high bar, but I might just have monkey arms :P

There's not really a height limit, but shorter people tend to be better at gymnastics because they're closer to the ground and have a better sense of gravity. but if you want to take it up again, I say go for it!

I want to ask you guys who are gymnasts (because I like the sport but am not a participant): what is the real difference-maker? Is it body size, ability to be flexible, intelligence, a specific coach, mental discipline? Why are there so few Nadias but thousands of those who want to be but can't? Thanks for any input on this. Watching this video it's easy to see the difference between the girl in the first part, who was really good, and the elite, who are in a different world.

the thing you really need to have mental toughness. just because you fall on something you just get back up and do it again till you get it. you dont NEED flexibility or to be strong, you gain that from practice.

Thanks FlyersFan. That makes sense, cause in anything you do in life, mental toughness is usually what separates winners from losers.
