Sweden 27-05-2008, the first flight of aircraft 39-7 a.ka Gripen Demo which is outfitted with a more powerful GE F414 engine and larger fuel tanks. The Demo is a flying testbed for future Gripens.

Driving the development of new technology

The Gripen Demo is not just the first step towards a new Gripen -- it is driving the development of new technology for existing Gripen customers and for other applications. Gripen Demo är ett flygande laboratorium, en testplattform för nästa generations Gripen -- det starkare och mer välutrustade plan som i folkmun numera går under namnet Super-Jas.

Motorn är större och starkare, en helt ny radar har utvecklats liksom ett helt nytt kommunikationssystem och nya vapensystem.

Den nya generationens Gripenplan innebär att hela Gripenprojektet - det som kallats för Sveriges största industrisatsning - förlängs bort mot 2040. /site

Gripen ar en av Sveriges mest avancerade uppfinningar...rakt igenom bara! Dock, utsatts Sveriges vapenindustri for press av USA som tvingar andra nationer att kopa deras foraldrande teknologi och inte Sveriges "cutting-edge". HEJA SVERIGE!!!!! =)

Min flyglärare har hört rykten om att nästa Gripen får två motorer. Eller att det blir ytterliggare en variant på NG.

I read on Gripens official homepage that this was a test plane, a plane that would be tested alot and to be used as a base for the new swedish 5th Generation aircraft project that is about to start, or may have already started.

The new model will probably be called Super-JAS by the people :). Real name is unknown.

Though this is a very nice plane, and thanks for the video :)

Correct me if I am wrong please, this is just what I've read.

Detta planet har byggts för tester och som en grund för nästa Gripen modell. Som ska vara ett 5th generation aircraft. Likt SU-47 Berkut, det har antagligen byggts för tester inför en helt ny modell. Super-JAS

Is the new Gripen gonna be an 5th generation fighter with the E/F upgrade? Its name sounds like its gonna be.

Kommer den nya Gripen vara ett 5th generations stridsplan med E/F uppgraderingen? Namnet antyder på att det verkar så.

It does have the same STOL capabilities.
