The preacher in the song is basically preaching the exact opposite of the bible. The angel of the lord being a female. That God is ever changing, the "righteous" need to be changing, that faith is not needed. Read the lyrics as you listen to the song there is a litany of contradictions, but what else would you expect from maynard?

I just recently heard this song and I think the meaning behind it is simple and not toward the destruction or hatred of religion, or for that fact limited only to religion. It's simply saying that if we are truly made in the image of our creator(s) and we change as we do, why resist the expansion of ourselves and stick to old, archaic/foolish ways? Change is the destination of our race, our creator(s) obviously expect us to change and become something more than what we are.

to continue with your thoughts I think this song also embraces all religions (as religions have CHANGED and progressed thruoghout history and cultures, from pagan polytheistic beliefs, to the major world religions monotheistic beliefs and rigning true with Nietshce the death of God today).
Personally I dont ascribe to any one religion, but I love studying theology and each religion has brought truth to me and helped me CHANGE myself to lie closer with truth (the cornerstone of the song)
