Self hypnosis effect.
If your body is in a panic mode and then it imagines that it can't breathe(if you hit your back to hard or the chest) then the body panics more and makes you think you actually can't breathe.
This reduces the ability to breathe as you panic to much to breathe regularly though you are perfectly capable to breathe.
