Autechre - Gantz Graf

Back

The music video for "Gantz Graf" reached a cult status in underground computer-generated imagery art circles. The video features an abstract object (or an agglomeration of objects) perfectly synchronized to the sounds in the music as it morphs, pulsates, shakes, and finally dissolves. The visuals contain the same amount of richness and detail as the soundtrack does, having a visual counterpart to every little sound or frequency range in the song. Alex Rutterford (who had previously created an unofficial video for the Tri Repetae track "Eutow" as part of a Channel 4 music programme in 2001) claims the idea for the "Gantz Graf" video came during one of his LSD trips.

why is it that people seem to not understand this? There is music in the pattern of the "noise", why did I hear it right away?

Back in my day, we listened to music because it sounded good!

Yeah, I used to find no appeal in most of Autechre's work, but I look at it now and it's almost algorithmic in its beat patterns. It's nothing short of being absolutely genius.

It's amazing how much an acquired taste can open your mind.

@Warprec0rds : Your absolutly right. It took
a lot of time til i recognized the logic and structure of this track.First it was noise in my ears, but now i`m fascinated of this sounds.
And the video is pure art.

i remember listening to "gantz graf" for the first time a couple of years ago.
that was pure noise, lack of any sense.

now, not only i see downright logic in it, but i find these complex beats quite appealing and simple in fact; once you sum them up in your mind and create one flow of electronic power that gradually changes its form.
i thik "gantz graf" in its form is some 10-15 years ahead of 2002 when it was created.

great work. 10/10
