You dont have to be connected to wifi to use the gps... but u do have to pay to use the full function of the gps. When u purchase it u have a trial version of using the gps. If us decide to us the gps without purchase, the streets would not be label for you, but it would show you where your at and your movement but wont talk to you.

no. this is a PDA not a phone. however you can make calls through skype and gizmo

you dont pay monthly for it. HOWEVER, the GPS is SOOOOOO SLOW! it takes about 10-15 mins to connect. so far thats the only con ive found about it
