Geology Rocks: Ulexite Demo

Back

I show a few of the samples in my rock collection and talk a bit about the interesting light transmission properties of Ulexite. It's sometimes called TV Rock or TV Stone because it acts like a fiber optic. It's kind of hard to capture on film, but a fun rock to play around with as you can see.

so its kinda like iceland spar?

Iceland spar is calcite which doubly refracts light. Which means you see double vision. Ulexite is a true fiber optic, it transmits light from the base of the stone to the surface. Both are cool effects though.

It's hard to capture the coolness of Ulexite with a camera. Cool vid!
