Mr. Jim Goldman and especially Mr. John Dvorak should try opening up an iPhone with their fat fingers before telling "this kid" to come up with a better solution. :S VERY patronizing and unfair.
He did what a lot of very smart people have been trying for months. And best of all: he put the manual to do it on the internet: for free!

geohot a and the Dev team are legends for us hackers. I'm now using an iphone in Thailand were I just happen to be posted with a multinational company, I'm able to use my iphone on the local system with my local sim and low cost monthly program of under $20 a month 1600 minutes and unlimited Edge... Without Geohot my iphone would still be a brick waiting for Steve Jobs and apple to rule the telecoms world!!! sorry no go! "Chai Yo" to Geohot and the locals here would say..

Have been following this story since I saw George on the Nightly News with Brian Williams yesterday. My first question was will this land George in legal trouble with ATT or Apple. Nice to know he's safe because of the technology right for people to have information (DMCAct). Thanks for the post.
