Some of the most inspired and provocative thinkers, writers, artists, business people, teachers and other leaders drawn from myriad fields and from across the country and around the world all gathered in a single place - to teach, speak, lead, question, and answer at the 2006 Aspen Ideas Festival. Throughout the week, they all interacted with an audience of thoughtful people who stepped back from their day-to-day routines to delve deeply into a world of ideas, thought, and discussion.
Richard Branson is founder and chairman of the UK-based Virgin Group, Ltd., which includes international music megastores and companies in air travel, mobile communications, finance, retail, music, Internet, drinks, railroad, and hotels and leisure, with approximately 200 businesses and brands in more than 30 countries and revenues exceeding $7.2 billion. The award-winning Virgin Atlantic Airways, which he formed in 1984, is now the second largest British long-haul international airline. In addition to his business activities, Sir Richard is a trustee of several charities, including the Virgin Healthcare Foundation, a leading health care charity that has raised over £100 million.
Virgin Galactic is a company owned and established by Richard Branson's Virgin Group to undertake the challenge of making private space travel available to everyone and bycreating the world's first commercial spaceline.
Virgin will own and operate privately built spaceships, based on the history making SpaceShipOne . These spaceships, which are currently under construction, will allow affordable private sub-orbital space travel for the first time in history and give you the opportunity of being amongst the very first private astronauts. -- Virgin Galactic (website)

personally i am a great admirer of richard branson , however , how can he buy this nonsense about a global warming tipping point ? i wouldn't worry about that at all . the important thing is that this is a huge step for mankind . america needs to get behind this . it is also nice that the builder was an american , in a sense following behind the wright brothers .

Personally, we do not need to be spending millions/billions on space travel... How about we stop giving up on our planet and fix the problems here and now.

that is what people said when the first computer was born. Until Bill Gates make it affordable to many households, we cant live without it (alomost). I am sure Branson will make virgin galactic affordable in the future.

Yayyy! Richard Branson's little "Space Limo" for the likes of Madonna & Paris Hilton to fly in and look down their noses at us peasants below as we scramble to keep food on the table.
