Then you should have said that. But whatever. You are right that I think MH is better than AM, but then again, never would have heard of AM had it not been for MH. And I have listened to a lot of his stuff and words cant express how I wish I could play as well as him, but this isnt really music that speaks to me. I don't think he has the diversity and creativity and just plain "like it" vs "love it" that you find in a MH or Jimi Hendrix, or Jimmy Page even. Just my opinion.

Not in general, but I do have a problem with the way you came across in your comment when you said: "Nearly all Andy McKee's repetoir is a tribute to Michael Hedges... It takes a true artist to be unique."

You're a lot like fans that seems to favor Michael Hedges over other every other guitarist; saying that without Michael Hedges, none of this would be possible. Yes, we all believe Michael is a genius, but to use him to belittle other fingerstyle guitarists is just rude to me.

Do you have a problem with an opinion? Do you have a problem with a statement? Sure seems that way. Go to any art appreciation class and they will compare and contrast artists all day long. For you, I guess this is meaningless jabber, but that's how we determine an artists influences and stature. Perhaps this means nothing to you, and thats fine, appreciate what is for what is. Very Taoist. Some of us like to go a little deeper.

You "like" comparing artists? What could you possibly gain from comparing two people? An opinionated statement?
tcthomas4 (November 18, 2008 at 2:04 am)
I made no such implication. I don't post in order to piss YOU or anybody else off. Thats just a bonus in this case. Perhaps you don't like comparing guitarists, but I do. And if they don't like being compared, then tough. Thats life as an artist; you will always be compared, contrasted and dissected. Maybe you don't have an opinion, maybe you are an artist tired of being compared, but if thats the case then dont post your video or perform. Kurt Cobain would have some good advice for you.

"Wow, I really enjoyed creating the stir. After all thats why this forum is here." Are you implying you comment on videos just to "create a stir?"

Apart from that, I'm not quite sure you caught my point. I said that these guitarists don't join the industry to be compared (not that it's absolutely impossible to compare them); and if they don't want to be compared, why cause a ruckus doing so?

Yeah I would agree that Hedges is probably the best (or one of) in this particular genre. But not the best guitarist in general. That was the point I was trying to get at.

ohhhhhhhh chill he aint making videos for u to argue

I think I am comparing guitarists in the same genre. My opinion, but MH and AM have a lot in common. I beleive Andy would tell you the same thing. But whatever, you are entitled to your opnion as well.

Wow, I really enjoyed creating the stir. After all thats why this forum is here. Andy is just a guy trying to express himself, so I really didn't mean to cut on Andy. He is certainly better than I will ever be. But I respectfully disagree, you can compare MH and AM, have listened to a lot of this stuff and the influence is clear. No need to get offeneded by that, we were all influenced by somebody and all get compared to others. Thats they way it is, and the way it should be.
