i know it sounds shameful, but i like fretless and want one so i dont have to worry about slapping, because i just can't get the technique down! does anybody have any advice?

Don't slap. It makes no sense.

buy a bass with a thumb rest. it will help you with slapping and help you slap ghost notes between the notes you slap

a hella lotta practicing is really what it takes. jss keep practicing and youll fix your bad techniques without even knowing it.

Slapping takes A LOT of practice. It may be that you're trying to do too much. Start with slapping open strings, do this at various tempos. Eventually when you can do this comfortably, go on to slapping all 4 open strings in random succession, then try slapping out scales. When you feel comfortable with that, start to introduce popping. Be patient and put in a lot of time and you will be able to slap well.
