Arguably the most powerful song Marvin Gaye has ever recorded. He prophesizes his bout with one of the demons that would eventually bring forth his demise. I remember my parents playing his "What's Going On" album when i was young, and his songs have always stuck with me. Just thought I'd share it. Enjoy!

please read the book on Marvin Gaye life it will releaved a lot about his struggles his life and his relationship with his father. Mr. Gaye had went through a bad child hood but overcame a lot of demons...sadly without professional help those demons will come back and try to overcome you. I truly appreciate Mr. Gaye music and i understand his pain. i hope to see him again in another life-time

this album was written over twenty years ago but still have an impact in the 21 century....thats how u measure a classic album whats goin on is a masterpeice a true classic

This song is so deep it is scary. I know he is talking about drugs, but I often relate this song to the Christian experience. He is fighting against a strong desire to do something that he knows will cause him destruction. That is exactly how I view the Christian experience. We have a desire to sin, through our fallen nature. We are "so stupid minded" and we "can't help it". Then right after we get what we want; the guilt and pain. I'm happy God knows we are hooked to sin, and wants to help us.

The truth is from a very good friend of his here in Detroit,that Marvin had alot of demons but loved God very much,he was a very intelligent and emotional man with depression.Marvins house was full of pictures of himself all over the wall and he would listen to his music over and over...lol.Drugs,love for many women and depression is what killed Marvin..The Truth!

Marvin is just the best artist to me. I thing he used drugs as an escape from the world. Someone tld me that he use to sit and think for hours about his music and the world. He was really concerned about the worlds condition, and you can feel it in his voice when he sings. To me, he's the king of soul.

that songs just breaks my heart. he was crying out for help but noone stepped up to help him. i guess cause he was such a ster noone wanted to anger him. the songs makes you wanna cry. rip marvin i love you

marvin did coke and mj. then moved to crack. look at his appearance in the 80-81 videos. he was hooked for yrs. hello!!!!!!
