To GermanOperaSinger : Are you trying to say that all Italian tenors had the equal quality of diction ?
RossiniSoprano (November 13, 2008 at 3:26 am)
Pavarotti was not great in French diction, which is why there are VERY few recordings of him singing in that language. On the other hand, his Italian diction was second to none!
GermanOperaSinger (November 13, 2008 at 3:47 am)
It would make sense that his Italian diction was good because he was a native Italian! =)
RossiniSoprano (November 13, 2008 at 3:57 am)
Yes, but that's not why his diction was the best. There are plenty of native Italian speakers who do not have superb diction in that language, and that goes for all the other languages, too.

Ok let's get this straight. Juan Diego Florez's C's are most certainly better. They are more secure and stable than Pavarotti's. But why do I prefer Pavarotti to Florez in this role? When have you ever heard a tenor of comparable vocal weight toss off nine of these C's with such such efficiency?
RossiniSoprano (November 13, 2008 at 3:25 am)
NO, they are not most certainly better. They are most certainly SMALLER, however. I find Pavarotti's Cs more stable than Florez', actually.

This is beyond human capacities. What an effortless singing !

Pavarotti's French diction left much to be desired yes... But I speak very good French and it's all perfectly understandable...
