On the whole I think Michelangeli performs the Debussy preludes stunningly, but I really can't feel the love for a beautiful woman in this one... My loss I guess.

You're right, that is more expressed by the violin version (although you have to find the right player in that situation as well). It's almost as if Debussy chose the wrong instrument.

Haven't come across that version but I imagine it could work. I think it works magnificently on piano - but I would say that, being a pianist!
