Fifties Cheesecake Dance No. 16
BackPLEASE READ THIS - This is a heavily-edited version of the lengthy Sadie Hawkins Day sequence from Li'l Abner (1959). The film starred Peter Palmer as Li'l Abner Yokum, Leslie Parish as Daisy May and Stella Stevens as Appassionata Von Climax. The statuesque Julie Newmar played Stupefyin' Jones, a female "robot" with the power to stop men dead in their tracks. Five feet eleven Newmar had an IQ of 135 and was best know as Rhoda the Robot in "My Living Doll", and as the first Catwoman on the 60s "Batman" TV series. Ms Newmar also features in Fifties Cheesecake Dance No. 28.
The film was directed by Melvin Frank and Nelson Riddle contributed original music. And yes, that's Jerry Lewis in a cameo appearance.
I am always looking for new ideas for this series. If you have any suggestions please don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Did anyone notice the legendary Jerry Lewis in this scene?

Did anyone read the interesting information about this clip I included for people who wanted "more info"?

Stella Stevens was a dish, but why would she need to be so here with voluptuous and leggy Julie Newmar on the scene as Stupefyin' Jones? And if you look carefully, you'll see a young Valerie Harper (wearing pigtails and an orange dress) and Beth Howland (Vera from the TV sitcom "Alice" in pink) among the chorus dancers.

Hi, Did you leave out a word from your comment, "but why would she need to be so (?) here with voluptous and leggy Julie Newmar".
What's the missing word? Conservative? Prudish? Restrained?

Wow, what a treat! I remember seeing this on the Broadway stage as a kid, but somehow never caught the film (or even knew that one existed). Must say that Stella Stevens looks disappointingly buttoned-down as Appassionata.

The film is a riot. Check it out on the stunningly beautiful Paramount DVD. And yes, this is not the film to watch for Stella Stevens eye candy. I recommend "Slaughter" (1972), with Jim Brown, in which all is revealed.

By the way, anyone know who played Apassionata Von Climax on Broadway? That's right-another 60's sex icon-Tina Louise. Only wish she had done the movie version as well.
