the earth is a living being, like all living beings it wants to reproduce. This could happen 2 ways. 1) Artists dream so Scientists can get us off the planet on a ship and create another Earth 2) We destroy ourselves sending parts of the Earth flying through space, eventually crashing somewhere and again reproducing the EArth.

He seems to make an assumption that centralized control is the necessary ingredient for the transition from type 0 to type 1. This scale is known as the Kardashev Scale, and I don't remember him mentioning it's name. I believe complexity can only emerge from decentralization.
