If tibet were every to gain its independence then it would become a country of economic shambles... not to sound harsh but it would be equal in economy as a 3rd world African nation. Its a barren nation of pleasant farmers and such. Their main revenue is from tourism from mainland china. It's basically screwed both way no matter how you f**ck it.

If they weren't so defiant and accept mainland china's help then it would be treated equally like all the other provinces of china. China is made up of 23 provinces and you don't see them demanding independence! Back in the Warring States Era of China's early history the nation was divided up by this until the Qin united the people.
