because the F/A 18 activeted the flare and if the Mig fire the missle it would go for the flare not the plane. The flare is a kind of counter masure that direct the missle away from the plane, for what i know in real life if a F-16 is been lock there would be a sound in the cockpit that sound like "Counter, Counter, Counter" and the Master caution signal would light up so the pilot would have to act fast if not he would be on the ground...

Surely F-18 doesn't stand a chance against a MiG-29 in dogfighting.... MiG can lock the target just looking by the helmet visor, can fire backwards, has IR sensor that can lock and track the oponent (without letting it know and reducing radar cross section) and the R-73 missile is the best (much better than a Sidewinder)...that's why West German MiG-29 destroyed (in training) every F-16 or F-18

Just like the F/A-18 Super Hornet. It can look on buy looking, tell between friendlys, and fire with the nod of the head. so yeah the f 18 hornet may not stand, but the Super hornet, or the raptor make and MiG look Infeiror
