Back

This is part of of a tutorial on how to build a medium sized diorama. The scene for this diorama is the Spartan Warrior Battle of Thermopylae. The diorama is two feet by three feet and wired for lighting and sound. This episode of the tutorial shows you the concepts of paper design and building templates then designing and building the 3dimensional structure.
Lots more fun stuff on my website at:

And the next installment of this tutorial coming real soon. Where I will cast the plaster shell creating the terrain.

lol! You are right. Sparta wouldn't spare me the expense of 300 soldiers. I even asked the oracle and she said no!

is it better to get materials from a profesional store like games workshop or a herdware store where its cheaper?

Thanks! That would be fun. I should look at ways I can autommate this diorama. I was thinking about putting the characters on some kind of moving setup so they could engage each other.

Nice! Grats on taking the plunge and thanks for the alternative method of creating the diorama shell. I will have to add it to my tutorials. Take some pics for us!

Well i took the plunge, and I had allot of fun. I couldn't get my hands on any hydrocal at my local hobby shop so im going to have to order some. But in the meanwhile, I mixed up some speckling paste with some water added in to thin it out, and used that instead. Its my impression that it works just as well. Just thought i would throw that alternative out there.
