This song was originally recorded by Santo and Johnny, not the Ventures.

Thanks for the info. I know he uses a Space echo. I found one at Guitar Center in mint condition. Roland makes a new version which is pretty close, but the vibe of having vintage equipment is just too cool. Brian uses 2 Fender 59' Bassman amps to complete his sound.

Which original? The version I am familiar with is done by the Ventures, who copied off of someone else. I just think Satriani needs to what he does best and leave the old style and big band to Setzer.

Don't know if you'd call it a peal, but I believe he does use a Fulltone tape echo, a basic rockabilly tool.

SLides have there place in blues and for steel guitar (which was what the orignal was trying to imitate). I just think Setzer does a better job and certainly is a consummate showman. Slides are great for lots of southern rock and new country too. However, to get the sound and swell with just the volume knob and not sound "cheesy"- well that is why Brian is making the bucks and we're commenting on YouTube.

Simply the best there is! Check out the awesome volume swells around 3:00 and later on, no pedals boys! Just a man and his beautiful Gretsch 6120. Joe Satriani uses a slide (cheap). The aggressive leads 1:30-1:55 rock then the smooth leads on the neck pickup later are genius. I also love the natural tube feedback he gets off the amps toward the end. Just an awesome arrangement for the whole orchestra.

-1 for calling slides cheap, and for apparently knowing nothing about the original. Otherwise, +1!
