Technically, this particular tune isn't really bluegrass. It's more acoustic jazz in genre or what the mandolin player, David Grisman, termed "DAWG music". I believe that for the most part, it's improvised...though all of the musicians are professionals and are quite good at playing "off the cuff". Bluegrass is the same in this respect and breaks are improvised just as you see here in this video.

I agree. While the picking is hot it isn't what I call hard core bluegrass.

I don't know, but I've heard the same rumor. As you said, he's currently on tour with Dan Tyminski, but AKUS will be regrouping at the beginning of 09. Next year markes the 20th anniversary since the first AKUS album. Team that up with the fact that he's been on the road with Dan and Barry and I think the possibility of Adam joining in with AKUS could be real, even if only to celebrate the 20 year anniversary!
