nice to see something from beckett turned into a movie scene, but the truth is that we didn´t need it this way. the first guy is right, the director fucked up the brilliant text and intentions of Beckett.

the director fucked it up; the whole idea was that the sudden light across the face throws the farce of the exhibition into sharper relief, shaming the voyeurism of the audience and reducing the applause to 'a stunned silence'. instead we get a fade-out with continued clapping, which misses the message entirely.

wow, So Beckett explained this to you did he? Or is this your own opinion?

I suppose the fact she hands him a torch instead of a cigarette lighter also somehow manages to deter from the scripts original "message," or maybe it's O.K: since this is a film ADAPTATION of a STAGE PLAY.

Not sure Beckett would have approved - he was painstakingly particular about stage directions. Not sure the adaptation sheds any new light either. Decent acting though.

What an event: Pinter and Gielgud in a Beckett play, directed by Mamet! A once-in-a-lifetime coming together of greats. Fantastic!
