Wow. I'm just going to say, that the pressure in Japan is...I can't even describe it. When I was in Tokyo, there was so much PRESSURE in the atmosphere. The pressure to do well in school, acting polite, the busy-ness in a way totally different from NYC. It drives people to suicide. That's why suicide rates are so high, as someone else mentioned. It's not a fun place to live. But a really fun place to visit :]And btw, Japan has a low crime rate because of the pressure to act RIGHT.

Its the sociological stand point in Japan that's considered very important in Japan, most people there drive themselves to succeed, and crime rate is low because of a combination of strict anti-crime laws and as you said, the pressure to act right. And as for a fun place to live, it is a great place to live. Well, might be different, since I'm Japanese, but I don't live there anymore.

I guess suicide is not considered a crime..?
I admit it really has a lot of pressure!
But I kinda like it in a way, because the atmosphere challenges me and drives me to succeed, I couldn't be the person I am right now if I didn't live here.
I'm not fond of Japan, but it sure has a good side.
Oh the crime rate..? I can't tell if it increased... but there are lots of stuff about kids killing their parents or teachers.

Crime rate is relatively low compared to other nations, and in reality, homicide rates are especially low compared to other developed nations, so there being a lot of stuff about kids killing their parents or teachers is actually a myth, since its murder itself is quite rare already.
