Alcatraz

Back

When planning your trip to California don't miss Alcatraz Island, once home to the nation' most dangerous criminals.

Alcatraz is among the most popular San Francisco attractions, drawing 1.5 million tourists a year.

Veronica Hill of California Travel Tips explains where to book your Alcatraz tours and Alcatraz tickets for the best experience and cheapest prices. Alcatraz Cruises, run by the National Park Service, is a best bet.

In this video tour of Alcatraz, you'll learn about Alcatraz history, the escape from Alcatraz and stories of haunted cells and Alcatraz Island ghosts.

You'll also learn about the famous prisoners of Alcatraz, including Al Capone, George "Machine Gun" Kelly and the "Birdman of Alcatraz," Robert Stroud.

Have a great trip!

Yes, it is interesting to think that they may have made it and are out there somewhere. It certainly is possible to make it across those turbulent waters, though not easy. A 7-year-old boy recently completed the swim to the island. Incredible!

wow, seeing the artist's drawings of the Anglins & Frank morris is intriguing, quite a contrast too compared to the ones on the America's most Wanted site, also amazing to realise the Anglins are (if alive) 76 & Frank morris is eighty-one, nearly eighty-two.

Thanks so much! That was a difficult one to shoot because the park service does not allow tripods unless you pay several thousand dollars. Everything was hand-held against walls and window ledges!
