they do sound similar, but I think Hans Zimmer realises this. I think its more to do with the fact both 'True Romance' and 'Badlands' share quite a common story, but are not exactly the same, and this is reflected through the music choice here.

This music just touches me in places i have never been touched before, that is by music. I love this film and the score makes it even more potent.
