Man those thing are loud I have seen 3 jet engines in a 4 wheeler and trust me it is the most amaing thing i've ever seen that thing was moving at 200 mph in only 6 secs

Very interesting :) ..Thanks god we have the smart people in the earth who can create those things..

The starter motor just turns the compressor-turbine shaft (not the fan-turbine shaft). Once the engine is working it turns another small shaft that has electrical, hydro and air auxillury pumps etc. Some engines have the starter motor also on this small aux shaft.

It is a device called an (APU) Auxilliary Power Unit.

Most jets operate on the example of Bernoulli's principle. For example,if you take a garden hose and let the water flow at its maximum pressure, pinching the hose will increase the water pressure. This principle applies to jet propulsion. Also called Bernoulli's Theory.

this is a very good video describing the basics of jet propulsion. i have my faa "p" license (powerplant) and i wish i had the opportunity to watch this video when i first started my engineering career. i work daily with high-bypass commercial aviation turbofans, mainly the CFM56 series engines. thanks jannej312!

Those are on the 737s, right? The 4-, 5-, and 600 series? Great engine.

Jet engines use an electrical starter motor like a car engine. The only difference is a jet engine takes longer to start. The starter motor turns the engine at low speed until their is enough pressure inside the combustion stage for the fuel to ignite.

Thanks! Would the electric starter just turn the turbofan, or would it turn all the parts to get them going?

Dumb question? Just fascinated by this stuff.
