Peteboy1113, thanks for answering the musical question, "Where were you when the lights went out?". Great story!

I was 11 years old, living in the New Jersey suburbs, 30 miles west of NYC. Don't recall the TV show I was watching, but the screen turned to "snow". Suddenly, for a few seconds, on came WBZ-TV in Boston - 250 miles away.

Then, boom-boom - out go the lights! I turned on my transistor radio, and listened to Dan Ingram trying to figure out what was going on. What an experience!

The '65 one was a weeknight. My dad was gym teacher and fencing coach at Lincoln High School during that time. Coney Island was one of the few if not the only areas in the city that did not lose power. He had to stay late that night for reasons I have forgotten (fencing meet that night?). While we were panicking on Long Island he was blissfully doing his thing unaware that anything was wrong until he went on the Belt Parkway.

Sorry, but, again, he never broadcast from home.

Actually, he was on his way home when the '77 blackout hit. He called in and provided some actualities for the news department once he got home...

This was a Sunday afternoon, if my memory serves me right. Was living in the Bronx at the time, and was eight years old.
