Innovate or Die - Aquaduct: Mobile Filtration Vehicle

The Aquaduct is pedal powered vehicle that transports, filters, and stores water for the developing world. A peristaltic pump attached to the pedal crank draws water from a large tank, through a filter, to a smaller clean tank. The clean tank is removable and closed for contamination-free home storage and use. A clutch engages and disengages the drive belt from the pedal crank, enabling the rider to filter the water while traveling or while stationary.

The Aquaduct is the winning entry in the Innovate or Die contest put on by Google and Specialized. The contest challenge was to build a pedal powered machine that has environmental impact. Please visit our blog ( ) or email team.aquaduct@gmail.com for more details.

Good idea but not practical. what citizen in a third world country can afford one of these bikes? I get that you expect somone else to provide the services of the bike to the people of 3rd world count's, yet, there are much, MUCH more practical, quicker, and more efficient ways to provide clean water. You are simply trying to globalize them even more. They don't need to care about the environment when they have enough trouble surviving themselves. It is us, who over consume, that need worry.

More people will die faster from transmitted diseases thanks to pedal power.Impractical. NOT environmentally sound.A cruel hoax. Viruses for everyone. No possible way to maintain this illconcieved, flimsy contraption.

This is like the time when some idiots proposed giving free shopping carts to the homeless... Why not give them a house? No, no, no. That would make too much sense! Let's keep the bums pulling shopping carts and the poor using some stupid bike/filter so we can feel better! Ever hear about boiling water before drinking it? Idiots.
